MySafe:Riverside Promotes Wildfire Awareness

Did you notice it was warm today? There have been some windy days recently, too. If you’re in the fire service, those are two of the triggers that get your attention. Wildfire season is becoming a year-round event.

The film unit of the California Fire Prevention Organization collaborated with the City of Riverside and surrounding agencies to produce an important public service announcement about wildfire. Understanding Ready, Set, Go is essential for anyone living in an area that could be impacted by wildfires.

Wildfires are unlike any other type of fire, in that they are not contained in a specific place, like a fire in a building is. A wildfire can have flaming brands and sparks fly through the air – notably if there is a strong wind to carry them – and they land sometimes as much as a mile ahead of the what firefighters call the “flame front.” That means that containing a wildfire is a big challenge for any fire department. It also means that if you think the fire is far away, that might not be true for long. That’s why learning to practice Ready, Set, Go is so important.
